I’m Kalani — a licensed esthetician in Honolulu who has spent more than seven years at European Wax Center Kapiolani, growing from wax specialist into lead trainer.

My work is quick and precise, but it never feels rushed. Every guest gets a real consultation, a heads-up before each step, and aftercare they’ll actually use. Most of my book is Brazilians and brows, so I know how to put a nervous first-timer at ease — and how to keep a regular smooth and ingrown-free for years.

Behind the scenes, I build the training new estheticians learn on, keep the room running on schedule, and hold the sanitation standard for the whole team.

The guidance I walk every guest through — great results start before the wax and last long after it.

Before your wax

Let it growHair should be about ¼ inch long so the wax can grip — skip trimming right before.
Exfoliate gentlyA light exfoliation 1–2 days before helps prevent ingrown hairs.
Keep skin bareNo lotions, oils or heavy creams on the area — clean, dry skin works best.
Dress comfortablyLoose clothing helps avoid irritation, especially after lower-body waxing.
First time?Some discomfort is normal. A mild pain reliever 30–45 minutes before can help.

After your wax

Keep it cleanWash gently with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser.
Skip the heatNo hot showers, saunas or intense workouts for 24 hours.
Protect from sunAvoid direct sun for 24–48 hours and use SPF.
Go easy on productsNo scrubs, exfoliants or retinoids for 24–48 hours; an ingrown-hair serum calms skin.
Stay on rhythmExfoliate 2–3 times a week after 48 hours and rebook every 4–6 weeks.

For safety, I always ask clients to share if they’re using any of the following before a service:

Retinoids or acne medication (Retin-A, Accutane)
Blood thinners
Recent peels, laser or microdermabrasion
Chemotherapy or radiation
Certain hormonal medications
